Information about the RPW electrical antennas deployment operation during the LEOP.


General

Purpose & Objectives

Prepare the RPW electrical antennas (ANT) deployement (x3) RPW-related operations during the LEOP.

Working Group Members

RPW sub-system teams will also contribute to define the RPW modes to be set during the deployement.

Context & assumptions

RPW will be switched-off during the LEOP, except during the Boom and ANT deployments operations.

The SSMM will be available during these operations.

The ANT deployement will be performed one by one, starting with the PZ (ANT1), then PY (ANT2), finally MY (ANT3). The deployment of the ANT1 will start at T1=TBD, the deployment of the ANT2 at T2=TBD, and the deployement of the ANT3 at T3=TBD.

The details of the deployment is given in the RPW Antenna User Manual.

The ROC and CNES are in charge of preparing the sequence of TCs relative to the instrument modes, to be operated during the deployements. The sequence of TCs that will drive the deployements them-selves will be delivered by the RPW antenna team.

RPW is set in a specific configuration for ANT deployment. Measurements will be taken during the first and last 10 minutes (before and after the ANT deployment). RPW in BURST mode with both spectral modes (all frequencies for B) and waveforms.

Minimal requirements:

  • THR: B field on channel 1 and E on channel 2 (all frequencies, max freq resolution).
  • LFR: spectral mode for B and E at the maximum frequency resolution, waveforms at the minimum resolution
  • TDS snapshots at the minimum resolution

Maximal requirements

  • THR: B field on channel 1 and E on channel 2 (all frequencies max freq resolution).
  • LFR: spectral mode for B and E at the maximum frequency resolution, waveforms at the maximum resolution
  • TDS snapshots at the maximum resolution

We require RPW subsystems to provide the TC parameters (engineering values) for the configuration during the ANT deployment.

ROC

  • Before starting the deployment, run the TC to apply 22V to fire the frangibolt and start the deployment.
  • TM to verify the voltage

The following S/C telemetries are required during the deployment sequence:

  • Current in the SMA heater line for each antenna
  • PA temperature for each antenna (the thermal control of the PA is performed by the S/C, by means of heaters and temperature sensors. There are 3 temperatures sensors per antenna; these sensor measurements are required on ground).
  • Micro-switches status. They are read by the S/C by means of analog channels (instead of digital channels).
  • Spacecraft AOCS telemetry.

 

OPEN ISSUES:

  • Deployment sequence: order of antenna deployment.
  • For each antenna there are two frangibolt for both ant boom and stacer. Do we need two independent TC to run the 22 V, to fire both BOOM and Stacer frangibolts?
  • ANT oscillations during maneuvers (frequency 0.3 Hz). Damping time? Only important only during rolls?
